Truman Days is an annual event which is hosted each year by the Jackson County Democratic Committee. Democrats throughout the County, as well as Organized Labor come together to celebrate past political victories, and to prepare for the upcoming political season. On Friday evenings these organizations hosts Hospitality Suites and folks gather to this fundraising event which benefits Democratic Candidates who are seeking office or re-election. On Saturday mornings a Breakfast is held and later that evening a formal dinner is held to honor that year’s recipient of the Harry S. Truman Award.

On Saturday, May 2, 2009, the Annual Truman Days Dinner was held at the Hyatt Regency Ballroom. This year’s the featured speaker was Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, State of Michigan. Governor Granholm highlighted the economic downtrends throughout America and how it has affected working class in her state and throughout the country.

The Committee honors one male and one female each year that have been active in Jackson County politics, or for their leadership and commitment to the community.  This year the two honorees were Lana Ultican, Jackson County Committee Woman and Sherwood Smith, Taxpayers Unlimited.
We are proud to have one of Local 42's members added to the list of names that have been recognized since the inception of this award in 1989.
